Dundrum Flooring

The floor in Dundrum is very special and expensive because it contains ammonites. It is a limestone floor but the limestone has ammonites in it.

AmmonitesThey are an extinct group of marine creatures. They are invertibrates and they are subtitled as Ammonoidea. They are said to be in the same family as octopuses, squid and cottlefish, they are shelled though.
They are excellent index fossils. It is possible to link the rock in which they're fossil is found to a specific geological time period.

     

Contents of Dundrum

Dundrum is irelands largest premier retail and leisure destination. There are over 100 shops, both exclusive and designer. The anchor of the shopping complex is House Of Fraser's department store. There are 38 restaurants and cafes. There's a 200 seat cinema complex, 2 bars and a nightclub.
Dundrum's shops come from all different parts of the world. For example: Hollister comes from California, Tesco is from the UK, McDonalds is from america, KFC is from Kentucky, Eddie Rockets is Irish and Topman is from the UK also.

Movies @ Dundrum

A very well known aspect of Dundrum is their cinema complex. They show all the new movies and hold 16 different cinema screens. It holds a 200 seat movie theatre and all of the theatres hold over 130 seats. The ratings cosist of; U, G, PG, 12A, 15A, 16, 18.

Geography/Floods

Flooding
On October 24th 2011, Dundrum town centre was flooded. There was storms of rain and Dundrum was flooded due to its stupid positioning. It was situated badly due to three reasons:
1; It is at the very end of a hill which is where all the water is collected.
2; It is in a hole in the ground
3; It is situated beside a river
(Ireland is also a country that receives over 2'500 mm of rain annually.

To put today's weather into perspective, Dublin had 90mm of rain, a more than slight increase on the previous historical record, 48mm. Excellent weather your testing out an ark with two of every animal, but rubbish if you wanted to go window shopping.

Geographical Content

I chose to write my blog on Dunrum because I think it is a great shopping centre and it is very geographical. At a first look you may not realise how geographical the shopping centre is but then you may see that the shops are from all different parts of the world.
For example:
*Hollister Co. is from California

*Tesco Ltd. is from Britain
*Virgin is American

*Dunnes Stores is Irish
*Schuh is German
*McDonalds is American

Awards to Dundrum Shopping Centre

Dundrum has won a variety of awards for its vast variety of services. It was awarded the: County's first Ecocert certification. An annual check is made on the town centre and if an award is given it is only valid for three years. It is won when a number of things are completed, one of which is a continuous improvements in the town centre.

Dundrum also won 'Shopping Centre of the Year' award in 2009. This award was the third in a row for Dundrum. It was presented to Don Nugent at the Gala awards. It is voted by shopping centre retailers throughout Ireland. When receiving the award Don Nugent said; ;“We are thrilled to receive this award for the third year in a row. It is truly a great honour for Dundrum Town Centre to win, particularly as it is voted by retailers It is a true testament to the team work amongst retailers and management, who are managing its ongoing progress and consistently growing the centre to ensure the best possible customer and tenant experience.”

Site work on Dundrum Town Centre began in 2001 and the huge task of changing a 400 year old village to a 21st century town centre was underway.

Hundreds of people every day head to Dundrum to shop or look around the shopping destination. Dundrum also have a Facebook and Twitter account where hundreds of people can write in and ask questions.


Dundrum supply something for everyone with their huge variety and have a lot of things in the outlet that a lot of people don't know about, for eg. creche, theatre and wheelchair supply.
